How popcorn bidding works

Merchants have the flexibility to activate popcorn bidding either during the creation of a new bid or while running an existing bid.

In order to facilitate a fair and competitive bidding process, the merchant employs a system that grants bidders additional time to reconsider and place new bids. This system works as follows:

  1. During the final 10 minutes of the auction, if a bid is placed, the closing time is automatically extended by an additional 15 minutes. This extension is calculated from the end time of the auction.
  2. The purpose of this extension is to provide an opportunity for bidders to counter and surpass existing bids, encouraging active participation and ensuring a more robust auction environment.
  3. The time extension continues as long as new bids are placed within the additional 15-minute period. If a bid is received during this extended time, the closing time is further pushed forward by 15 minutes from the time of that bid.
  4. However, if no new bids are placed within the extended 15-minute period, the auction comes to an end and is considered expired or stopped.

Step 1:

To enable popcorn bidding, follow these steps:

  1. Access the app dashboard and navigate to the Auctions section.
  2. Locate the specific auction you want to configure and either create a new auction or edit an existing one.
  3. As you scroll down through the auction settings, you will find the option for popcorn bidding.
  4. Look for the checkbox associated with popcorn bidding and enable it by selecting or ticking the checkbox.
  5. Once the checkbox is activated, popcorn bidding will be enabled for that auction.

Step 2:

To configure the time threshold for activating popcorn bidding, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the “Active when time left is less than” section.
  2. In this section, you will find a field where you can specify the desired time limit.
  3. Enter the desired time value that triggers the activation of popcorn bidding. For example, you can enter “10 minutes” or “1 hour” depending on your preferences and the nature of the auction.
  4. Once you have entered the desired time threshold, the popcorn bidding feature will be activated when the remaining time in the auction falls below this specified limit.

Step 3:

To set the duration for the extended time period in the section, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the “Extend the time for bidding to” section.
  2. In this section, you will find a field where you can specify the duration of the extended time period.
  3. Enter the desired time value that you want to add to the extended time period. For example, you can enter “15 minutes” or “1 hour” depending on your requirements and the dynamics of the auction.
  4. Once you have entered the desired duration, the countdown will reset, and the extended time period will commence whenever a new bid is placed during the specified time threshold.

Make sure to click on the “Save” button after configuring the desired settings. This step is essential to ensure that your changes in the app dashboard are properly saved and applied to the auction.
